
Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) assumed office as the Governor of Uttarakhand in September 2021, bringing decades of leadership and strategic experience from the Indian Army. In his role, he supports the state’s constitutional framework and promotes initiatives related to development, public welfare, and cultural heritage.
Prior to his gubernatorial appointment, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh served in several senior leadership roles in the Indian Army, including Deputy Chief of the Army Staff, where he was responsible for operational planning, modernization efforts, and organizational readiness. Over a distinguished military career spanning nearly four decades, he commanded formations across diverse terrains and played a key role in defense policy and training reforms.
